We all know what an orange tastes like, don’t we? Sure, some oranges will be sweeter than others, and some will be more tart, or more pungent, but the essence of “Orange Taste” is firmly embedded in the minds of all who have ever had the experience of tasting an orange.

Over the past twenty years, I have had a number of very intense spiritual experiences. I have spoken of these experiences to my family members and a few close friends. My purpose in writing this is not to preach any particular philosophy or to boast, but simply to share these experiences with anyone who might find them interesting and fascinating, as I did. I am certainly no saint and struggle with my share of human weaknesses and problems.

The greatest gift that I have ever received was the experience of God. The greatest gift that I can give another is the taste of God to help them along on their path of awakening.

Autobiography of a Yogi, by Parmahansa Yogananda

You will find this classic work on many different lists of recommended books. Throughout his life, Yogananda met many of the most amazing thinkers and saints on the planet, including Mahatma Gandhi, St. Teresa Neumann, Ramana Maharshi, Sri Yukteswar, Luther Burbank, George Eastman and The President of The United States. After receiving his spiritual training as a youth in India, Yogananda traveled to the United States where he founded the Self-Realization Fellowship. He spent the second half of his life teaching meditation, Kriya Yoga, and acting as a spiritual ambassador. Yogananda emphasized the underlying unity of the world's great religions, and taught universally applicable methods for attaining the direct personal experience of God. His life story has been an inspiration to huge numbers of people from many different faiths.

The Prophet's Way: A Guide to Living in the Now, by Thom Hartmann

This highly recommended book provides an inspiring look at Thom Hartmann's personal journey of spiritual awakening. It relates Thom's astounding experiences, and the wisdom of various teachers he meets along the way, in particular, his mentor Gottfried Mueller. This book will inspire you to go out and make a difference in the world!

We must do what we can. Always. At night we must go to sleep knowing that we have done our best, and there is no more you can do than that. Do not let the problems overwhelm you. Start somewhere, anywhere, with just the smallest gesture of compassion, and you have made a dent against the evil of the world.

-Gottfried Muller in Thom Hartmann's The Prophet's Way

Odyssey of the Soul, A Trilogy: Book I, Apocatastasis by Pamela Chilton CH, and Hugh Harmon Ph D.

The authors of this book have dedicated their lives to helping people to understand the true power of human beings, their multi-dimensional character, and the constant ever-present power of spirit that is available at all times to each-and-every one of us. They have a hypnotherapy school outside of Palm Springs, and regularly receive channeled information from non-physical beings, who refer to themselves as “Master of Light” and “Master of Spirit”. This is a highly recommended book for those who wish to understand the connection between the physical and spiritual planes; the power of hypnotherapy to heal stubborn psychological and physical ailments that are responding poorly to traditional medical/psychological treatments; and a wealth of practical information from divine teachers on “the other side” for healing ourselves and our planet.

Ask and It Is Given: Learning to Manifest Your Desires (The Teachings of Abraham), by Esther and Jerry Hicks

Since 1984, Esther and Jerry Hicks have been communicating with “The Other Side”, channeling a group of wise and beneficent non-physical beings who refer to themselves collectively as “Abraham”. This book is a compilation of their teachings into a handbook to help us take charge of our lives as conscious co-creators in this physical universe, and use our God-given gifts to help manifest our desires for the greater good of all concerned. Includes terrific practical advice and exercises for breaking out of self-fulfilling negativity and harmful patterns (breaking the human tendency to project our past into our future, continuing to manifest more of what we don’t want in our lives).

Initiation, by Elizabeth Haich

For nearly thirty years, this has been one of my favorite books. It is the moving and illuminating life story of an enlightened western yogi, Elizabeth Haich, founder of Europe’s famous Haich-Yesudian Yoga School. As a child in Eastern Europe, people came from miles around to see the unusual girl who could twist her body into unbelievable pretzel shapes. One day, a well-traveled doctor came to examine Elizabeth and asked her who had taught her yoga. When Elizabeth explained that she had no idea what “yoga” meant, the doctor brought her an instructional book from India on yoga, and showed her page after page of illustrations depicting the yogic postures that she had spontaneously and masterfully practiced since she was a small child. Her fascinating story includes awakening to past life memories of her spiritual training in ancient Egypt (text covers the knowledge gleaned from her enlightened spiritual master), her subsequent fall from a powerful state of enlightenment, and her struggles through intermediate lives to regain her former spiritual level in this current lifetime.

There’s a Spiritual Solution to Every Problem by Dr. Wayne W. Dyer.

A predecessor to the more popular The Power of Intention, I like to use this practical book as a guideline for involving the higher powers of spirit and intuition for the solution of every day problems in my life. This inspiring book is organized around the practical application of the tenets of The Prayer of Saint Francis, which has always been a great inspiration for Dr. Dyer, who sees the spirit of Saint Francis as a guiding light in his life.
